A Lot Has Changed Since This Episode
A fair bit has happened in the Gala ecosystem since we recorded this episode with BitBender back in January 2023 — so here’s a quick rundown to keep you up to speed.
BitBender Has Left Gala Games
In May 2024, after four years as President of Blockchain at Gala Games, Jason “BitBender” Brink announced his departure from the company. He stepped down from his official role to become an unpaid advisor, taking several colleagues with him. Rather than walking away from the ecosystem entirely, BitBender founded a new external organization called LFG — Let’s Fight Giants, focused on supporting GalaChain and the Gala Node ecosystem from outside the company in a more decentralized way. His words at the time: “I am never going to leave the GALA ecosystem.”

Gala Film & Gala Music Are Being Consolidated
When BitBender joined us, Gala Film and Gala Music were expanding as separate standalone platforms within the Gala ecosystem. As of 2026, Gala has announced it is consolidating both film.gala.com and music.gala.com back into the main Gala platform at gala.com. The company stated that all NFTs, smart contracts, and token IDs on GalaChain remain fully intact, but reward distributions for Music and Film Nodes will be discontinued as the standalone sites wind down. Gala said it is in conversations with external parties who may take dedicated ownership of those ecosystems going forward.
Gala Games Gets a Major Overhaul
The main Gala Games platform at games.gala.com has undergone a significant overhaul, with the company shifting its strategic focus toward AI-accelerated development, GalaChain, and DeFi infrastructure — describing it as “the Gala we’ve been building toward.” The broader Gala ecosystem has had a turbulent few years, including a controversial GALA token fork to v2, a major smart contract exploit, and ongoing leadership disputes between co-founders.
This episode remains a fascinating snapshot of where blockchain gaming was in early 2023, and BitBender was one of the most knowledgeable voices in the space. Well worth a listen for the context it provides on how far — and in what directions — things have moved.
